Cadini di Misurina Hike | An epic lookout

Cadini Di Misurina hike brings you to an epic spot where you can admire this group of peaks. This short hike, next to Tre Cime di Lavaredo, in the Dolomites can be done as a brief hike independently, or as a complement of the classic Tre Cime di Lavaredo loop. We opted for the second option, doing a total of 13.5 km, spending almost a full day around Tre Cime.

Basic Hiking Info

  • Distance: The path that goes to the main lookout and around is only a 3km in-and-out route.
  • Difficulty: Easy. The hike is mainly flat except some easy hills. No technical skills are needed and the views are epic, not scary, unless you have a lot of vertigo. But it’s 0 risky.
  • Duration: total time around 1 hour, adding stops and breaks from Parking Auronzo.
  • Accessibility: Can’t be done with stroller or wheel chair.
  • What to bring: hiking or good trail running shoes. A few layers of cloth. You never know the weather in the Dolomites.
  • Best time to go: Late June to early October for snow-free trails; September for fewer crowds.
  • Photographers: I’ll talk about this later in this post…

I’m not going to lie. Since I saw the typical photos of this place, with or without people, I knew some day I was going to see it with my own eyes. The place offers probably the most epic and picturesque background we have ever seen. While we have done more stunning hikes like Rinjani in Indonesia, these views are imposing. Except the silly thing about waiting for the photo in the lookout, Cadini Di Misurina gives you a memorable souvenir for a short hike.

The truth about Cadini Di Misurina panoramic viewpoint

Let’s be clear here because few posts really talk about this. Cadini Di Misurina panoramic viewpoint is like a gift from nature. A path that goes up to a small lookout right in the center of the sharp peaks and even looks unreal in photos. Since the 2020’s this place became SO instagrammable than many people come to Tre Cime just to take photos here. Something similar happens in Seceda, but the latter has more open space and people spread out.

Cadini Di Misurina viewpoint gets hundreds of people per day, and except the early morning, expect crowds to be waiting for the photo in line. I’ve only seen this silly thing in Bali. People line there for 30-40 minutes to take the same photo. Some people take a quick shot, but others fly the drone, or mount a tripod. So, be aware that you can find 20 people waiting there.

Our advice for photographers

If you don’t want to wait there, like us, we recommend going to another locations around the main lookout. We found one before getting to that point, and right after, following the main path. Here you will be mostly alone and you can take epic photos with the same background.

In case you want to have the typical photo but not do the line, you have to wake up really early. You’ll have none to less crowds and also better light conditions. A 24-70mm lens should be perfect for the photos. Finally if you don’t want to wake up early either, there is always a solution… photoshop! haha. That’s what we did to have this photo.

About Cadini di Misurina Hike

There is not so much to explain about the hike to be honest. The path to the panoramic viewpoint is 1.5 km and is quite straightforward because you see the peaks right from the parking. We did this part as a complement of Tre Cime Loop starting with this part, because I knew we would be tired after the 10 km loop and wouldn’t like to do it otherwise 😛 This is the track we did that day.

The path has some ups and downs but I consider everyone can do it, even small kids. So it’s a good and short family hike, it feel more like a walk rather than a proper hike. Once you reach Cadini Di Misurina panoramic point, or stop around there, people usually go back to the parking following the same path. Consider 1 hour for the hike including a break for photos, but add the extra time waiting in the line if that’s your goal.

And that’s all! A short post about the epic Dolomites in Italy. We’ll keep posting more things soon, so… stay tuned!
