Via Verde Benicassim Oropesa | Walk in Comunidad Valenciana

Welcome to another post about walks and hikes of Comunidad Valenciana! This time we talk about the Via Verde Benicassim Oropesa. An easy coastal walk that goes from Benicassim to Oropesa or vice versa in the province of Castellón.

The walk is easy, flat and perfect for families with kids or even with strollers. It’s also a good route for cycling or running and the views of the Mediterranean Sea make the path a good experience to disconnect ☀️.

Basic info about the walk

Since it’s a straightforward walk, there is not much to say but this is the most important information:

• The walk is 5,5 km long. This means the total route in-and-out is 11 km. Not a joke either. The total time can be 2,5 – 3 hours depending on your speed.
  
• The ground is paved or earthy but really flat and clean, so you can go there with your stroller with 0 problems. We’ve done this walk twice with babies.
  
• You cross through cut rocks, a 500 meter tunnel, and other two shorter tunnels. And the path is interesting.
  
• Also, the Mediterranean Sea offers great coastal views and feels great.
  
• It’s important to know that there is practically no shade on the way and it can be really hot in the summer. I would suggest doing this walk in the early morning in summer.

• There is only a Bar Restaurant along the path, so bring your own water and food with this in mind. Of course in both Oropesa and Benicassim there are multiple options for food.

How to get to Via Verde Benicassim Oropesa

There are two options to start the walk, in Benicassim or Oropesa. Find the starting points of this route in the map below.

For us, the easier option coming from Valencia, was to start in Benicassim and to leave the car in the Parking Amar/Voramar/Palasiet that’s free, and has tons of places to park (before 11 am).

Don’t forget that the most important thing to do in the walk is to enjoy the journey, not just the end! 🌊
