The Costa Brava is one of the most beautiful regions in Spain for a beach holiday. With dramatic cliffs, turquoise water, and charming seaside villages like Tossa de Mar, it’s easy to see why families love visiting this stretch of coastline.
On our recent trip while traveling with our 10-month-old baby, we were looking for calm, beautiful beaches that were also easy to reach. El Golfet Beach quickly stood out as one of the prettiest coves in the region, and even better, it is accessible via a short and scenic coastal walk.
If you’re visiting with kids, this is a perfect half-day adventure.

Where is El Golfet Beach?
El Golfet beach is located just south of the charming fishing village of Calella de Palafrugell.
Although the cove feels tucked away and peaceful, it’s surprisingly easy to reach. It’s doable even with a baby in a carrier or hiking backpack, or for younger kids to walk. Find below the hike we did that day to go there and later to Palafrugell town.
Where to Park for El Golfet Beach
There are a couple of options to reach El Golfet. You can start the walk from the center of Calella de Palafrugell, but since we were with a baby, we chose a shorter option.
We parked near the Sant Roc Hotel on the southern side of the village. From there, you can access the coastal path near Carrer dels Forcats and Carrer Marina. You can just search for “Camí de Ronda” in Google Maps.

From this point, it’s about a 25-minute walk to the beach, depending on your pace and how often you stop to admire the views and take photos.
Another option is to go there from the El Golfet urbanization at the end of Calle del Panamá. This route is slightly shorter but parking can be more difficult, especially during summer. You also miss out on the nice coastal walk and views.
How to get to El Golfet Beach in Camí de Ronda: The Scenic Coastal Walk
The walk to El Golfet follows part of the historic Camí de Ronda, a coastal trail that runs along much of the Costa Brava. The path was originally used by fishermen and coastal patrols, and today it offers some of the most scenic views in the region. We really love coastal walks. They remind us of our time we spent living in Sydney, Australia.

This part of the path to El Golfet beach is:
- Well maintained
- Relatively flat
- Easy to walk with children
- Best done with a baby carrier or hiking backpack with an infant seat, rather than a stroller
The Mediterranean views along the way make this short hike part of the overall experience of visiting El Golfet beach.

What to expect when visiting El Golfet Beach
El Golfet Beach Costa Brava is known for its clear, calm waters and natural setting.
Below are some tips and things to know before visiting the beach:
- Calm water – great for young kids and babies.
- The beach is made up of small pebbles – it is not sandy, but also not large rocks. Water shoes are recommended.
- Relatively unspoiled feel, even though it’s close to the village.
- Good snorkeling – clear water and rocky edges make it ideal for viewing marine life!
- Very little shade – bring a beach umbrella or beach tent, especially with young children. And don’t forget your sunscreen.
- Bring your own food and water – there are no bars or restaurants at the beach.
- Get there early to avoid crowds.
We arrived around 10:30 a.m. and it was pleasantly calm. By the time we left around 12:30 p.m., it had become much busier. In summer, arriving early is definitely recommended.

After the Beach: Explore Calella de Palafrugell
After visiting El Golfet beach, we spent the rest of the afternoon exploring the picturesque town of Calella de Palafrugell. It is a former fishing village that sits right in front of the sea, known for its whitewashed houses, small boats lining the shore, and relaxed Mediterranean atmosphere. We definitely recommend stopping here if you’re in the area. It’s the perfect place to end your day after the beach. Do as we did and stop for lunch at a seafront restaurant, grab an ice cream, or enjoy another swim at one of the village beaches.
Final Thoughts: is El Golfet beach good for families?
In our experience and opinion, if you’re visiting Spain’s Costa Brava with kids or a baby, El Golfet is a fantastic choice. The combination of a short scenic walk, calm water at a beautiful beach, and easy access from Calella de Palafrugell, makes it one of our favorite family-friendly beaches in the region.
It was the perfect balance of light adventure and relaxed beach time, which is exactly what we look for these days in our travels with a baby.
